73, Code of Public General Laws, title "Penitentiary," and
to re-enact the same with amendments,

AMENDMENTS PROPOSED.
Amend title. Make the word "Section" read "Sections."
Title —. After word "one" insert "and nine."
Title —. After word "Penitentiary" insert "as re enacted
by the Act of 1868, Chapter 97."
Section 1, line 1. Strike out all after the ward "Mary-
land" and insert "That Sections 1 and 'J of Article 73, of the
Code of Public General Laws, title "Penitentiary," as re-
enacted by the Act of 18G3, Chapter 97, be and the same are
hereby repealed and re-enacted so as to read as follows :
2. The Governor, by and with the advice and consent of
the Senate, shall biennially appoint Directors of the Mary-
and Penitentiary. He shall appoint during the present ses-
sion of the General Assembly, six Directors, two of whom
shall be appointed for two years, two shall be appointed for
four years, and two shall be appointed for six years ; and the
Governor shall designate the respective terms of said ap-
pointees. They shall hold office until their successors are
appointed and qualified, and may be removed, as provided
for in this Article. As the terms designated above shall ex-
pire, the Governor shall fill them for six years each."
9. The warden shall receive a salary at the rate of $2,000
per year, and shall be allowed subsistence, fuel, and the oc-
cupancy of such parts of the front buildings as a dwelling as
are not used for purposes of the Penitentiary, and all neces-
sary out-houses, yards and grounds not within the walls of
the prison proper, but shall receive no other pay, emoluments
or perquisites for his services."
