Which was read, anA referred to the Committee on Fi-
nance.

Mr. Stump presented the petitions of William J. Price and
75 others, and of James Criswell and 31 others, citizens of
Harford County, praying for a general fence law.

Which were read, and referred to the Committee on Agri-
culture.

On motion by Mr. Freeman, it was

Ordered, That it be entered on the Journal, that the ab-
sence of Mr. Steiner from the Sessions of the Senate during
the last week, was occasioned by the illness of one of his
family.

On motion by Mr, McLane, it was

Ordered, That the Chairman of the Committee on Claims
be instructed to payW. B. Peter, Clerk to the Committees on
Finance and Corporations, from the 10th day of January,
1878, the day which his duties as Journal Clerk in the
House of Delegates ceased.

Mr. Joyce submitted the following Senate Joint Resolu-
tions :

JOINT RESOLUTIONS.

Resolved by the Senate and House of Delegates of the State
of Maryland, That our Senators in Congress be, and they
are hereby insructed, and our Representatives are requested,
to vote for a bill now pending before Congress granting pen-
sions to the survivors of the soldiers, sailors and marines
who served in the war with Mexico, in the years 1846, 1847
and 1848 ; and that they use all honorable means to pass the
same into law.

Resolved, That a copy of this resolution be forwarded to
each of our Senators and Representatives.

Which were read the first time.

Mr. McLane, from the Committee on Finance, reported un-
favorably,

The memorial of Christine Surgeons, of Baltimore City,
asking for compensation for the loss of her son at Tobacco
Warehouse, in the City of Baltimore.

Which was adopted.
