On motion by Mr. Sulivane,
Leave was granted to Senators Sulivane, Humphreys and
Dennis, to introduce a bill entitled an Act to define and
preserve the inner harbor of Cambridge, and Cambridge
Creek, in Dorchester County.
On motion by Mr. Sulivane,
Leave was granted to the Committee on Judicial Proceed-
ings to introduce a bill entitled an Act to repeal an Act of
the General Assembly, passed at April Session, 1861, enti-
tled an Act to amend the 57th Article of the Code of Pub-
lic General Laws, by repealing the 1st Section thereof, and
re-enacting the same with an alteration touching the limita-
tion of certain actions for wrongs affecting the personal
rights of a citizen, and to re-enact the same with amendments
thereto.
Mr. Dennis, from the Committee on Judicial Proceedings,
to whom had been referred the memorial of Hon. James A.
Stewart, reported favorably Senate
JOINT RESOLUTIONS
WHEREAS, The Honarable James A. Stewart, of Dorches-
ter County, was duly elected Chief Judge of the First Judi-
cial Circuit of the State of Maryland, on the Tuesday after
the first Monday in November, in the year eighteen hundred
and sixty-seven, for the term of fifteen years from the time of
his election, and until his successor is elected and qualified,
or until he shall have attained the age of seventy years;
And whereas. The said Honorable James A. Stewart has
since the period of his election aforesaid, discharged his
duties as Chief Judge of the First Judicial Circuit, and
acted, and is now acting as Associate Judge of the Court of
Appeals; and will on the twenty-fourth day of November,
eighteen hundred and seventy-eight, (if his life is prolonged, )
attain to the age of seventy years, when his term of service;
will expire, unless it is extended by the General Assembly
of this State, by resolution pursuant to the third Section of
the fourth Article of the Constitution;
Therefore, The General Assembly, reposing full confidence
in the ability, integrity, wisdom and sound legal knowledge
of the said Honorable James A. Stewart, and deeming it
compatible with the public interests to extend his term at
service,
Be it Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
the term of service of the Honorable James A. Stewart, Chief
