Senate bill entitled an Act to appropriate a sum of money
to pay Walter B. Brooks, assignee in bankruptcy of Stir-
ling, Ahrens & Co., for the rent of certain warehouses in
the City of Baltimore, used as State Tobacco Warehouses,

Was read the second time, and ordered to be engrossed for
a third reading.

Senate bill entitled an Act to make effectual the provisions
made by the Act of December Session, 1844, Chapter 281,

entitled an Act to provide for the completion of the Chesa-
peake and Ohio Canal to Cumberland, and for other pur-
poses, in so far as said Act relates to putting and keeping
the said Chesapeake and Ohio Canal in good condition and
repair, and to make the said canal an effective means of
transportation.

Being upon its third reading, (by unanimous consent,)
Mr. Miller submitted the fallowing amendment:
AMENDMENT PROPOSED.

Insert in 1st Section, 5th line, after the word ''dollars,"
the words "or so much thereof as may be necessary."
