Maryland Training School for Colored Girls

This institution, located at Glen Burnie, Anne Arundel County, cares for
82 delinquent colored girls. Certain minor repairs and improvements are
badly needed to maintain this property in proper condition, and for this purpose
I am recommending an allowance of $5, 000 from the General Construction Loan.

MENTAL DISEASE HOSPITALS AND TRAINING SCHOOLS
FOR THE FEEBLE-MINDED

Maryland maintains 4 hospitals for the care of white mental disease
patients and one for colored. Two training schools for the feeble-minded, one
for white and one for colored are also operated. Information with reference
to this group of institutions is, as follows:

Hospitals for White Mental Disease Patients

Spring Grove............. Catonsville, Baltimore County.............. 1, 933

Experience indicates that the net increase in the population of the mental
disease hospitals is 200 white and 100 colored patients per year. These needs
are being met, as follows:

Additional buildings at Spring Grove to care for........ 200 patients

Maintenance appropriated for building at Eastern
Shore, built but not equipped, and for which there
is no appropriation........................................................ 100 patients

Additional buildings at Crownsville for Colored insane 200 patients

The building program is indicated in the statement relating to the pro-
posed General Construction Loan, and the details of necessary increased ap-
propriations to care for additional patients are detailed in the Budgets for the
several Institutions.
