the instance of the Mayor of the city of Baltimore, or
the members of the Board of Estimates, before the
passage of said Act, in relation to its objects, 'or for
the purpose of defraying the cost of constructing, re-
modeling, altering, removing, repairing or straighten-
ing any sewer or drain within the territory known as
the 'burnt district,' or for the purpose of defraying
the cost of repairing, remodeling, altering, removing
or reconstructing any of the water mains sub-ways or
conduits belonging to the city of Baltimore within the
said 'burnt district' or for any one or more of said
purposes.' "

issue the stock of said corporation, to an amount not
exceeding six million dollars ($6,000,000) for the pur-

expenses and costs of carrying into execution the plan
of improvements, adopted or to be adopted, under the
terms of the Act to create the commission for Balti-
more city, known as the 'Burnt District Commission,'
passed at the January session of the General Assembly
of Maryland, in the year 1904."
