the most prominent, respected and useful citizens of
this State has departed this life after a long and use-
ful career ; and

Whereas, This House desires to record its apprecia-
tion of his many excellent and sterling qualities, his
patriotism and his usefulness as a citizen, and to ex-
press the most profound regret at his sudden demise.

Therefore, be it resolved, by the House of Delegates,
that in the death of Mr. Hurst, this Commonwealth
has suffered the loss of one of its most upright and
honored citizens, the example of whose life and
character is worthy of emulation.

Be it further resolved, That an engrossed copy here-
of be forwarded by the Chief Clerk of this House to
the bereaved family.

Be it also further resolved, that a copy of this reso-
lution be entered on the Journal.

The Secretary of the Senate appeared and delivered
the following message:

BY THE SENATE,

January 14th, 1904.
Gentlemen of the House of Delegates :

We propose, with the concurrence of your honor-
able body, to proceed with the election of the State
Treasurer on Thursday, January 14th, 1904, at 12.15
o'clock. We have nominated on the part of the Sen-
ate, Hon. Murray Vandiver and the Hon. Thomas J.
Shyrock, and have appointed as tellers on the part of
the Senate, Senators Gill and Thomas, who are to
receive the votes of the Senate, and in connection with
the tellers to be appointed by your Honorable Body,
count, the same.

Secretary.
