       Contra        }      The Grand Jury for the Body of this County on the 14th: day of November in the

Thomas Relph–             year of or Lord 1693. at Monocan within the Jurisdiction of this Court upon their

~ ~ ~ ~ ~                               Oaths doe prsent Thomas Relph. for that the Sd Thomas Sometime on or about the

Tweluth day of September in ye year of our Lord 1692. Contrary to a Certaine Act of Assembly of this Province made at a

General Assembly held for this Province ye 10th. day of May in the year of or Lord 1692. amongst Severall things therein –

Contained, that no prson or prsons whatsoever either fforreigner or Inhabitant, Shall buy Trade or Barter with an

Indian or Indians whomsoever for any flesh dead or aliveing except Venison, Wilde foule or other Vermine upon

penalty of five thousand pounds of tobacco the one Moiety to the King & Queen for the Support of Government the other

moiety to the Informer or him or them that shall Sue for the Same, the Said ffine to be recovered in any Court of Record

within the Province. Wherein essoyn Protection or Wager of Law to be allowed Nevertheless the Said Thomas well knowing

the Said Act of Assembly to be in force & unrepealed, hath Contrary to the Said Act of Assembly, bargained with & bought of A

Certaine Indian One Shoat of the value of One hundred Pounds of tobacco Contrary to the Peace & agt the form of the Said

of Assembly. Dent Clk of Presentmts. //

                        The Indictmt being read to which sd Relph pleaded not Guilty. Therefore Comand was given to ye Sheriff

To bring here twelve good & Lawfull men of his Balywick, that the matter in hand might be the better understood. A List or

pannel whereof are returned as followeth (viz) mr Matthew: Scarbrough. Thomas: Walston. John:Jones. James Curtiss. Jno.

Browne. Samuel: Long. Edward: Green. Christopher Snoswell. James: Hill. Natt: Horsey George: Lane. Arch:Smith 12) who

being Legally Sumoned, returned & Sworn upon the holy Evangelists who having heard ye foresd Indictmt & Evidences receive

their Charge & are Sent forth                                 Evidences Sworn for their Maties were Wm: Layton & Thomas Camplin .

                And this day to witt the day aforesd Came ye foresd Jurors to ye barr in Court each man being prticularly Calld by his

                name, & being demanded are all unanmously agreed to their verdict, their Maties & Dft being Calld, the verdict

                is read as followeth (viz) The Jurors cannot find the Indictmt true. Given in by

Their Maties.                 The Said Katherine appearin did Confess that she had lately born a Basterd Child

            Contra  }                  And that Thomas: Wilson was ffather to Said Basterd Child &ca.

1693 // at Monocan within the Jurisdiction of this Court upon their Oaths doe prsent Katherine Barroch late of the sd

County Spinster, for that the Said Katherine not having the fear of God before her eyes, but moved by the instigation of the

Divel, hath Comitted ffornication, & on her body born a Bastard Child, to the dishonour of God and Contrary to the Laws of this

Province in this Case made & provided. //            Dent Clk of presentmts vide Supra.

                Ordered pr Court that Sd Katherine pay as a ffine twenty five dayes Worke, diet & tools when demanded & give

                good Security for ye Same & for her behaviour fees and to prosecute the abovesd Wilson, ye next Court in June

Whereupon Came Sd Katherine & yer Security mr Edward Green. And the Said Kath: did by recognizance acknowledge & Confess

her Self to owe and be indebted to their Maties in the Sum of tenn pounds Sterling money & the sd Green in the Sum of

five pounds like money aforesd due to be leavied on their goods and Chattels Lands & Tennemts for their Maties uses &ca.
