( 15 ) Likewise of England due to be leavied on their goods & Chattels Lands & Tennements for their Maties uses The Condicon of the abovesd Recognizance is Such that if the above bound Wm.Lawrene be of the good behaviour & abearance to all their Maties Liege people of this Province dureing the Courts pleasure as also pay his ffine & fees then this Recognizance to be void & of none effect otherwayes to be & remaine in force &ca.

Deft: Robinson of the Collony of Virginia Gent. who as well for our Soveraign Lord & ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Lady ye King & Queen as for himself in this behalf prosecuteth of a plea that he render unto them the just Sum of tenn thousand pounds of tobacco which from them he deteineth &ca. And whereupon the Said Rich Richard who as well &ca by Peter Dent Attorney Saith that whereas by A Certaine Act of Assembly made at a General Assembly of this Province held at ye Citty of St. Maries the tenth day of May in the fourth year of or Soveraign Lord & Lady Wm & Mary of England Scotland ffrance and Ireland &ca. and in the year of our Lord 1692: it is amongst other things therein Conteined, that any prson or prsons whatsoever that shall witting or willingly detein any Such Servant or Servants unlawfully absenting him her or them Selves as aforesd Shall be fined five hundred pounds of tobacco for every night or four and twenty hours, that Such prson or prsons Shall give entertainment to Such Servant or Servants unlawfully absenting him her or themselves, the one half to their Maties for ye Support of the Governmt. & the other to the Informer or him that shall Sue for ye Same to be recovered in any Court of this Province, by accon of debt Bill (of) Plaint or Informacon, wherein no essoyn Protection or wager of Law to be allowed. Nevertheless the said Henry Well knowing the Said Act of Assembly to be in force & unrepealed, but minding & fraudulently intending (the) Said Richard to deceive, of Indian Slave belonging to the sd Richard, the said Henry the 2d. day of September in the year of or Lord 1692: at Monocan within the Jurisdiction of this Court the Same did take up & entertain for the space of twenty dayes Contrary to the forme & effect of the said Act of Assembly and to the damage of ye Said Richard who &ca of 20000: Pounds of tobacco & thereof they bring their Sute &ca. The aforesd Declaracon being read, & issue joynd. Comand was given to ye Sheriff to bring here twelve good & Lawfull men of his Balywick, that the matter in hand might be ye better understood.
