( 82 ) 8ber ye 18th 1692 ffavour of God shall happen to be ordained by & with the Advice and Consent of ye great Concell of this Province Concerning ye State & Welfaire of this Province C Given under my hand and Seal this tenth Day of 7ber Ano Dom. 1692 in ye 4th year of ye Reign of or Sovraign Lord and Lady King William & Queen Mary &ca. sealed L. Copley ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Maryland Sc. By his Excncy the Capt Genll &ca. A Proclamation It having pleased Almighty God to bless prosper & succeed ye Royall Armes of or most Gratious Soveraign Lord & Lady King William & Queen Mary &ca with a most happy and Glorious victory by Sea & land ( as is most Credibly Informed) lately obtained agt ye french King as it afords matter of great Joy & Consolation (without Doubt) to ye whole Confederacy & all good Christians in Genll., So ought it more prticularly & Espetially to affect us their Maties naturall borne Leige Subjectes, who have So great a Share & Intrest therein not only with an outward Superfitiall Show of Joy & Gladness but also with a true Inward & Serious sense of gratitude for these grate blessings it hath pleased God ye Author & projector thereof, thereby to bestow on us Soe farr as to Invite & Stirr us up to rendr unto him ye Just Tribute of or most humble & harty praise & thanks for ye Same wherefore & to yt end & Purpose I have thought fitt to nominate & appoint & Doe hereby in their maties Name by & with ye Advice & Consent of their maties Counsell here Nominate & appoint thursday next ye thirtieth Instant to be a day sett appart kept & Solomnized at ye Citty of St. Maryes Thursday following ye twentieth Instant within & through ye County of St. Maryes & Thursday next after following the Seaven & twentieth Instant Genrlly. in & throughout ye rest of ye Province which respective Dayes in ye Respective & Magestrates Millatary & Civill & all others their Maties Subjects therein Inhabiting residing or being are Strictly Enjoyned, Charged & Comanded to Solemnize keep & Sett apart as Dayes of publick Rejoyceing & thanksgiving to Almighty God for So great a blessing not only by rendring unto him all Due honnor Glory & praise in their most Solemne & Serious Devotions & Religious Exercise but also by using Such other outward & Publick Devout Demonstrations & Expressions of Joy & Gratitude as upon such great & Solomne occations hath been usuall & practicable in all parts of ye Christian world & I Doe hereby in their maties name Straitly prhibite & forbid all masters of familyes Mistresses Dames or overseers or others whatsoever within this Province to work or use any Servill or bodily labour themselves or Suffer or prmitt |
