John Harris        This day brought a Nigro man into Court, which Nigro
told the Court that his name was Wm: Philips, and that he had Served Maj^r Beaverly
sd Nigro likewise Said that he was a piece of a Carpente^r, and that his Godfather Gilbert Philips
freed him from sd Beaverly, which sd Gilbert Lived in James Citty he likewise told the Court
that he Came Over in April last past in Co^ll. Custiss Sloop & further Said Co^ll  Custis knew him
to be a free man. the Said Nigro told the Court the last place he was at work was at Tho: Midleton
 
Ordered by the Court the abovesd Nigro be taken into the Sheriffs Custody till
Security given that he is a freeman, or p^rduce Cert. from Co^ll Custiss directed to Some Magistrate
