Somerset County Ss // May 10th. 1693// ( 237 ) Whereas Complaint is made before me pr Michael. Holland, that Severall goods Wares & Merchandizes hath been Clandestinely or rather felloniously taken, his house broken Open Contrary to the peace &ca. - - - - - - These are therefore in their Maties Name to will & require yw that upon Sight hereof yw make diligent Search in all Suspicious places for any of the sd Goods and them having found to Secure, and the person or persons with whome found, & to bring both goods and persons before me or Some other of their Maties Justices to answer what shall be Objected, given under my hand & Seal. the day & year abovesd (To) the Constable or Cunstables of Tho: Jones Sealed Pocomoke & Animessex hundreds These prsent. ___ Or else Michael: Holland is hereby impowered to prosecute the sd prmises and to make further Search. // this Warrant Should have been inserted before ye Recogniz. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Somerset County Ss // The Grand Jury for the body of this County. At a Grand Jury for ye Said County the 14th: day of June in the year of or Lord 1693// On their Oaths doe present James: Gray & Margarett his Wife of this County, for that the Said James & Margarett Some time in the year 1693// Severall goods belonging to Michael: Holland of the value of five hundred Pounds of tobacco being Stole from the Said Michael. by his Nigro Woman, the Same did receive, Conceal & keep Contrary to the Peace &ca. Dent Clk of prsentmts Capt. Wm: Coulbourne & Jno. White were Sumoned for their Maties, Sworn in Court & Sent up to the Grand Jury. - - - And the Grand Jury made returne of the Said Bill as followeth Wee of the Jury doe find this Bill of Vera. given in by me John: Bennett foreman After which Comand was given to the Sheriff to bring here twelve good & lawfull men of his Balywick that the aforesd matter in hand might be the better known A list or pannel where of are returned as followeth. (viz) Wm: Planner. Rich: Ackworth. Robt. Burridge. Robt. Catlin. Abraham: Emmett. Tho: Humphreys. Jno. Perkins Rowland:Beavins Robert: Smith. Tho: Oxford. Wm:Richardson. Edward: Green. 12 = who being legally Sumoned returned & Sworn upon the holy Evangelists, who likewise have also heard the foregoing Warrant, Recognizance, Indictmt. The Confession of the said James: Gray & Margarett his Wife, who Confessed to have recd of the foresd Nigro Woman one yard of Cloth & one Shilling in money, also further hears the two Evidences for their Maties viz Capt Wm: Coulbourne & Jno. white examined upo their Oaths. as also five Evidences for (defence) agt sd Maties examined only, having perused this following accot. of Hollands |
