( 227 ) June 13th 1693 (until Such) time as he give Security to keep the County indemnified from all Charge or trouble that may ensue by reason of the Said Basterd Child and for his good behaviour dureing this Courts pleasure, & to pay Officers fees. & to mentain sd Child &ca. Whereupon Came the sd John. & his Security Henry Hall, and the said John: did by way of Recognizance acknowledge & Confess himself to owe & be indebted to their Maties King Wm. & Queen Mary the Sum of thirty pounds Sterling money of England. & the sd Henry Hall the Sum of fifteen pounds Sterling ditto; due to be leavied on their goods & Chattels lands and Tennements for their Maties uses &ca. The Condicon of which Recognizance is Such that if the above bound John:Poore, doe mentain and keep a Basterd Child lately begottne of the body of ye aforesd Jone:Needham, So that this County of Somerset be nowayes indemnified thereby, as also be of the good behaviour & abearance to all their Maties Liedge people of this Province, dureing this Courts pleasure and also pay Cost of Sute, that then this recognizance to be void & of none effect or else to be & remain in full power force & vertue Their Maties The said Thomas:Selby being Calld to answer &ca. Contra } was pr Court remitted paying fees . Thom: Selby.Sernr/ George:Noble & Jno:Watt made Oath to a Bill of Peter: Brushars. &ca Ord. Sum for Capt. Coulbourne Evid for Michael:Holland agt Ja: Gray To the Worll. Court of the County of Somerset. In all humillity Sheweth that I formerly presented to your Worp a Comission from his Excelly to be Surveyor of this County and Tendered my Oath, but yr worps were pleased to deferr it till yr worps had heard from his Excellency, which I Suppose yr worps has had an answer to, therefore desires yw would be pleased to give me yr result, there being Severall Warrants to Serve, and Cannot Safely Execute them without being legally Sworne J Barsestead Petion being read the sd Barsestead was then Sworn upon the holy Evangelists according to the tenour of his Comission to act as Surveyor justly & truly to ye best of his Skill &ca The Courts adjourned till Tomorrow at eight a Clock |
