( 191 ) March 15th 1692/3 Their Maties Somerset County Ss // Contra } The Grand Jury for the body of this County doe prsent Capt Wm: Piper. __ Wm. Piper late of this County, for that the Said Wm: Piper ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ not having the fear of God before his eyes but moved by the instigation of the Divel on or about the 10th. day of January in the year of Lord 1690 = at Monocan within the Jurisdiction of this Court, then & there being One hogg of the value of two hundred pounds of Porke, belonging to Christopher Snoswell, the Same did wickedly felloniously thieve Steal & Carry away Contrary to the Peace & agt ye form of an act of Assembly in that Case made & provided. Dent Clk of prsentmts. Evidences Sworn in Open Court agt Sd Piper were Hen:Sassnett & Saml. Worthington & Sent up to the Grand Jury, who returned the abovesd Indictmt. Billa vera. The Indictmt. being read to wch the Said Piper pleaded not guilty, & for tryal refers him Self to the Country. ---- Wherefore Comand was given to the Sheriff of this County To bring here twelve good & Lawfull men of his Balywick that the matter in hand might be the better understood, a List or pannel whereof are returned as followeth. (viz) James Curtis Alexander Thomas. Lawrence.Gary James:Langreen. George: Goddard. Moses ffenton Richard:Cary. Somerset. Dickinson. Jno.Gray. Roger: Odowey: Thomas:Smith William Wallis 12) who being legally Sumoned returned & Sworn upon the holy Evangelists who having heard the foresd Indictmt. as also Seen & heard the two Evidences Sworn & examined, receives their Charge and are Sent forth to determine the Same ________ And this day to witt the 16th. day aforesd Came the foresd Jurors on tryal betwixt their Maties & sd Piper, and being prticuliarly Calld over each man by his name being all unamously agreed of their verdict, The plts & dft being likewise calld, the sd verdict (is) read in these expresse words following (viz) Wee of the Jury finds Capt Piper not guilty of the Indictmt. James:Curtiss. foreman. __________________ Which foresd verdict was pr Court to be entered. and also that Capt.
