( 186 ) March ye 15th 1692/3 // which verdict this Court Orders to be entered as afore inserted. Ordered the sd Layton pay 400 pounds of porke which the Court judges to be the four fold to mr ffra. Jenckins Order to give Security for the said fourfold & Cost of Sute. Ordered into Sheriffs Custody till Security given ut Supra. Corporall punishmt Ordered to be remitted ___________ Ordr. likwise to give Security for good behavior dureing this Courts pleasure - - - - - - - Whereupon Came the said Wm: did by recognizance acknowledge himself to be indebted to their Maties in the Sum of tenn pounds Sterling money of England & the sd Cornelius in the Sum of five pounds like money due to be leavied on their goods & Chattels lands & tennements for their Maties uses &ca. The Condicon of this Recognizance is Such that if the above bound Wm:Layton doe pay or Cause to be paid 400 pounds of Porke as awarded with Cost of Sute, as also be of the good behaviour & abearance to all their Maties Liege:People of this Province dureing this Courts pleasure, then this recognizance to be void & of none effect otherwayes to be & remain in full power force & vertue To the Worll. the Justices of Somerset County in Court Sitting. The humble petion of Mary Huett. Sheweth that yr Petioner was bound by an Indenture to Serve four years to one George Berrett in the Province of Virginia which four years yr Supplyant hath well & truely Served as followeth to Say three years to the Said Berret & one year to ffrancis Roberts of this County. There are therefore to pray yr worpps that yr Supplyant may be ordered her freedom. & yr Petioner as in duty will ever pray Whereas mr George Berrett bought a Servant name Mary Hewett of mr Richard Bray which Said Servant the Said Berrett axed the said Bray if the said Huett was firme and Sound and when the Said Berrett brought the said Maid Mary home to his house the Said Hewett made a very great Complaint & Said She was not well and her Master & Mistresse axing what She ailed to make her goe So lame & Stradling and at last found it out that She was very much Sore, & in Such a Condicon of the Morbis Gallicus & So farr gone that wth out Speedy help the Said Mary:Hewet might have perished in So much that the sd Berret was faine prsently for to Seek for Cure & the Said Berrett Sent for one Doctor Thomas= Stulkes for to undertake the Cure of the said Mary Hewet & the said Doctr hath undertaken the Cure & the said Berrett is for to take the trouble upon him at his owne house & for to See the said Mary wants for Nothing as is fitting for the said Mary which is a great deal of trouble & Charge dureing her time of her Cure. verte. |
