The Jurors for their Maties being Sworn upon the holy Evanglits Contra } at a grand Jury held for the body of this County the Second Tuesday in Novemr - - - - - - - - - wickedly sinfully and Shamefully comitted fornication and born a Basterd Child - To the great dishonour of Allmighty God, Scandall and evill Example to their Maties good people of this Province and against the wholesome laws & institutions of the same Therefore their Maties Attorney craves judgmt may be entered agt the said Offender according to Law in that Case made and provided James: Sangster. Clr. Indtmts The Indictment being Read to which the sd Mary Confessed, and Said that Thomas: Lewes was the ffather of the abovesd Basterd Child. Ordered process issueagt the sd Lewes - Intr. Ordered By this Court that the said Mary Reynolds have Corporall punishment viz. One and Twenty lashes upon her Bare back well laid on, at ye Comon whipping post wch: was pr sheriffe prformed Edward Evins in Open Court pr Recognizance assumed to pay Court Charges due upon ye accot. of sd Reynold she being Servant to the said Evins _____ - - - - - - - _______ - - - - - - - _______ - - - - - - - - Andrew: Whittington: Plt. Somerset County Sc. William: Morris of this County Planter Contra. } was attached to answer unto Andrew Whittington Innholder in William. Morris Dft. a plea of debt - - - - And whereupon the plt by James Sangster - - - - - - - - his Attorney Comes and Sayes That the Said Defendt is become and Stands indebted unto the plt in the full and just Sum of Seaven hundred and Eleaven pounds of good Sound Mertable tobacco in Caske, as doth and may appear by Specialty under the hand and Seal of the said deft bearing date the sixteenth day of Novembr 1686. and is here in Court produced wherein the said defendt did bind himself his Heirs Execcutors and Admrs firmly to the plt. his Heirs Execcutors - Admrs or Assigns for the true payment of the said Sum. Yet the said deft fraudulently & Craftily intending to deceive the plt of the Same, hath hitherto denyed payment and yett doth deny to the plts great Losse & damage to the value of fourteen hundred and twenty two pounds of like tobacco, and hereof he brings this Suite . - Sangster pr Qud. prled { Jno. Doe Rich: Roe } This Bill bindeth me William: Morris of Somerset County Innholder my Heirs Execrs and Admrs to pay or Cause to be paid unto Andrew Whittington of the County aforesaid Innholder his Heirs or Assigns or lawfull attorney or Order the just quantity of Seaven hundred and eleaven pounds of good Sound Merchantable tobacco in Cask Convenient in Somerset County according to act of Assembly, upon or before the 10th. day of October next ensueing wittness my hand and Seal the 16th: day of November Ano. Dom. 1686. Sealed and delivered in presence of William: Morris Sealed Jos: Sherly. The decl and bill being read. Returne pr Sher: N: Est Inventus twice. the plt John: X Swetman. Craved Order for Attachment, which was granted, giving Security according to Law his marke. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ July 3th. 1688: I doe remember that about Six years Since. Thomas. Jones of Somerset County Sold a black horse to mr Daniel: Clocker (named) Gunby which said horse as was generally reported, belonged unto ffrancis Gunby late of Somerset County which I shall be ready to testifie upon occasion.
