March 9th. 1691/2 ( 180 ) To come and assist in hunting and getting out the said Swine, in which hunting was killed One large -- Spotted hogg of Thomas Ocfords mark as they which killed him declared which Said hogg the said Margrete did with the assistance of the said Pages Nigroes, kill dress, Cutt out, and Salt up for the house provision - this Deponent also Saith yt ye next Day affter ye aforesd hoggs was killed & Disposed of as aforesaid ye Said Swine as before Came into ye Sd field and were hunted out as before, in which hunting was two barrows killed well grown barrows, but not altogether So large as that killed ye Day before, one of ye Sd Barrows had a ~ White Shoulder and ye other a white list Cross his Shoulder & both of ye Sd hoggs were of Thomas Oxfords ~ marke, one of them was Scalded, & ye other Singed, And ye Deponent being required by ye Sd Margarett to assist in Dressing ye hoggs aforesd Did refuse and thereupon margarett aforesd, Did Cause ye man nigroe Slave to ye Sd Page to lay violent hands on ye Deponent, who beat her Down to ye Ground by Severall Blowes, and laid her for dead a Small Speace and for Some time after, ye Deponent Continued Ill & under frome of ye Sd bad ussage, further this Deponent Saith that ye Sd Scaled hogg was ordered & Salted up by ye parties that Salted up ye first hogg and that ye Singed hogge was by them Cutt out for Beacon but lightly Salted & for present Spending.this Deponent further Saith yt ye next Day after ye Sd two hoggs was Disposed of as aforesd, Did Swine Come into ye Sd field ye third time and then and there was killed two Barrows more, one a redish Sandid: the other near a white, one of which hoggs was forthwith Dressed and Salted up as ye other Scaled hoggs were by ye parties aforesd, but ye other afternoon & then was removed by ye Sd parties into a heap of bushes and by them fleaed Carryed in & Salted up as ye rest and ye Sd last two hoggs ye Deponent knowes not whose they were but as Thomas Parramore Declared that they were either Richard Peppers or Martine: Trentams but mrs Page ye Sd Boyes Mother Declared that She thought that She thought they were ye Sd martins hoggs, the Sd Thomas Parramore also Declared that killed one Swine more which make in all Six in number, and finding ye Sd Swine to be verry poore and lean, he threw it over ye fence and drew it into ye Bushes where it lay & was not made use of as ye rest of ye Swine were this Deponent further Saith that upon mr Page & his wife ye Deponents then master & mistriss returne from Acomack She ye Deponent Did acquaint her Sd mistriss how they had killed peoples Swine as aforesd, and that her Sd mistress Did Secretly Charge her to Say nothing of it, She would acquaint her husband that She had ordered them to kill a ~ hogge in their absence in accomack but ye Sd Deponent knoweth & affirmeth that She knew nothing of any ~ Such order nor was there any Swine of mr Pages killed in their absence for ye for ye house provision although ~ When they tooke their Journey to Accomeck they left ye house wholly Destitute of any flesh meat of any kind, this Deponent Saith allso, that in march last, ye Sd Page Disposed of her time She had to Serve and Sold ~ her to Wm: Oswell and at ye Deponents leaving her Sd Service with mr Page her Sd mistrisse tooke her up into the Chamber apart from all others & there Did privatly oblige ye Deponent to Secricy as to killing of ye hoggs aforesd, when She was Gone away giving ye Deponent both fair words & threats to oblige her Sylence Say- ing that in Case ye Deponent did reveall ye killing of ye Sd hoggs or Speake a word about them, when She was Gone She ye Sd mrs. Page would most Grivously beat her ye Deponent and in Case She Could not light of her at her own house She would Come where I ye Deponent Should live, and there She would beat or Drubb ye Deponent Adding yt She had as much to Doe with ye Deponent after She was Gone as She had formerly when a Servant and yt If I ye Deponent Discovered ye Sd killing of ye Sd hoggs She ye Sd mrs Page would Certainly foreSwear it and then unavoidably ye Deponent must be whypt, this ye Sd Deponent Saith and further She Saith not releating to ye aforesd Six Barrows or Swine, in Wittness whereof ye Deponent hath Sett her hand Eliz: E Larrance her mark |
