( 179 ) The Deposition of John Swaine & Mary his Wife, ye Sd Deponents at ye house of Stephen Page when his woman Servant Elizabeth Larramore was Disposed of to Wm Oswell & Went from ye Sd Pages family, And that they ye Sd Deponents Did hear & See mr Pages wife take ye Sd Servant Woman into ye Chamber a little before her Departure (as might be Conceived upon Some private occation) and they were in ye Sd Chamber & their woman Servant margarett also with them about halfe an houre or more but what they did or said in the said Chamber we the Deponent know nothing further there then the said Elizabeth did darkly intimate to us the Deponents in our way home, at that Said time from the said Pages house, to witt, I the Deponent Mary asking the said Elizabeth what she and her Mistress did So long in the Chamber whether she had given her any freedom Clothes, the said Elizabeth answered no but she Charged me to Say nothing to yw of Somthing, for if the said Elizabeth did, her Mistress had threatned, she should hear of it or to that purpose, this the Deponents Say, and further say not witness their hands. signum Memorandum that this day being the 4th. day of August ye Said Deponents John : IS : Swaine made Oath before me upon the holy Evangelist to the truth of all above } Mary : Swaine. written Wittness my hand: Samll: Hopkins ___ - - - - - - ____ - - - - - - ____ - - - - - ______ - - - - The Deposition of Mary Swaine aged about 40 years. This Deponent Saith that being in Company with mr Stephen Page at the house of John: Pope in September 1691: The Deponent, heard the said Stephen Page utter the following words & expressions to Elizabeth Lawrence viz, Bette, you know that when George Russells Boar Barrow was killed she was none of my Servant (that is to say) Margeret Kenneday was not then Page his Servant as the Deponent understood it, Bette replyed to the sd Page that she was your Servant the next day after, and you know that the powdering Tubb was three parts full of meat when you Came home, and yw know you left no meat in the house when you went from home, and as for Walter Reads two Shoats your wife knoct out there brains against a Tree, and Cutt of there heads, and told the Children they were Over grown Possums, the said mr Page, then said to the said Elizabeth, if thou will but Clear me and my wife I will give the 20: ay. 30: 40: nay 50 pound. Elizabeth answered ah Master yw promised to Send me home for England, but you did not, the Deponent observing the said discourse spake to the Said Elizabeth not to take notice or give Credit to the said Page for he would deceive her to the truth of all above written the Deponent Can Saifly be deposed wittness my hand - her mark Memorandum the Said Deponent Came personally before me and Mary: Swaine made Oath upon the holy Evangelist to the truth of all above written } wittness my hand this 11th: day of Janry: 1691: Samll. Hopkins __ The Deposition of Elizabeth Larrance aged about twenty years. this Deponent Declareth & Saith that in October last past mr. Page and his wife being gone into Accamack, their did many Swine haunt their Plantation in their absence, and emongst which Swine were Severall of Thomas Ocfords, as the Deponent Observed by their mark, which Swine Comeing into the said field before all the Corn was gathered y Deponent by Margerett Kenneday, who then had the Charge and Care of the said Pages affairs in his absence -
