Signum The Deposition of Wm Oswell aged about Sixty years this Deponent Saith that about October 1690 he was requested by Thomas Oxford upon great Damage Done to ye Sd Oxfords Stock of Swine by mr Page & his People to veiwe in Company with John Parr ye Sd Pages fence ye Which we ye Sd parties with ye Leave of ye Sd Page & his Wife Did Doe to ye best of our knowledge, & we found ye Sd fence very Defective So yt Swine might With ease passd through ye Sd fence in Divers places which ye Sd Page was a Spectator of as well as we ye veiwers aforesd, And I ye Deponent Doe further Say yt I heard ye Sd Thomas Oxford Challenge or tax ye Sd Page for his unreasonable and unneighbourly usage of his Swine and ye Sd Page replyed he was Sorry he had not Done worse by them that he rendering ye following reason, to witt, because Thomas Oxford asked ye sd Page Soe Dear ye year before for Corn, moreover I ye Deponent was an eye wittness to ye hunting & abuseing of ye Sd Swine which was ~ Exterordinary bad Insomuch that Divers of ym wear not in a Condition to move or goe forth for their Livings but lay Day after Day in Condition more like to Dye then to live this ye Sd Deponent Saith & further now he he Saith not wittness his hand his mark ye Deponent Came prsonally before me this first Day of march & made oath William W Oswell upon ye holy evangelist to ye truth of all above written wittness my hand } Samuell Hopkins
