January the 12th Anno Domini 1691 (148) - - - - - - - - - - - - Their Maties Somerset Sc. The Jurors for their Maties being Sworne upon the holy Evangelists Contra:} at a Grand Jury held for the body of this County the Second tuesday in November Sarah: Caerne last doe present and find that Sarah. -- maid Servant to Donock Dennis wth in - - - - - - - the Jurisdiction of this Court, hath most wickedly Sinfully and Shamefully comitted ffornication and borne a Basterd Child to the great dishonour of Almighty God, Scandall and evil Example of their Maties good people of this Province and agt the laws and institutions of the said Province Their Maties Attorney Craves judgmt. may be entered agt the said Offender according to Law. Ja. Sangster Clr. Indts The Indictment being Read, to which the said Sarah Confessed to her Crime, and Said that John = Sargant is the ffather of the said Basterd Child. for which offence this Court Ordered that the said Sarah should have twenty lashes upon her bare back well laid on at the Comon whipping Post which by the sheriffe was prformed. -- Order likewise that sd Sargant appear next Court and said Sarah to prosecute. The Jurors for their Maties being Sworne upon the Contra. } holy Evangelists at a Grand Jury held for the body of this County the Jone: Farlow Second tuesday in November last past doe present and find that Jone - - - - - - - ffarlow of this County and within the Jurisdiction of this County Court hath most wickedly Sinfully and Shamefully Comitted ffornication, and borne a Basterd Child. to the great Scandall, evil example and dishonour of Allmighty God. Contrary to the good laws and Institutions of this their Maties Province. Therefore their Maties Attorney Craves judgment may be entered agt the Said Ofender, according to Law in that Case made and provided &c. Ja Sangster: Clr Indts. -- The Indictment being read, to which the said Jone Confessed, and said that Edmund: Macdonnel is the ffather of the abovesd Basterd Child. whereupon it was Ordered the sd Macdonnel appear next Court and the sd Jone likewise to prosecute the sd Macdonnel. Ordered likewise the sd Jone be taken into ye Sheriffs Custody till Security given for her fines &c. To the worll. Justices of their Maties Peace for the County of Somerset in Court Sitting . The Petion of Charles: Tindall humbly sheweth -- whereas your Petioner was bound by yr worps to keep the good behaviour. yr Petioner hath appeared every Court Since, and nothing hath Come in agt me -- humble your worps petioner Craves to be released from the Bonds, and yr petioner as in duty bound shall ever pray Continued by the Court till tryall of Peter: Whaples -- This may Certifie all the Gent~men and people of the Inhabitants of Somerset County and elsewhere yt yw shall not have no more dealings with my wife Mavell: Bounds, upon no account, neither for Porke,Beef wheat or Indian: Corne, or any other Comdity the Country doth afford, if yw doe I will not answer it as wittness my hand this 8th day of Janry 1691/92 John: JB: Bounds The abovesd note was Sett up at the Court dore being the true Coppie of the Record
