CHAPTER 28.
(Senate Bill 32)
AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section
1270 of the Public Local Code of Prince George's County
(Flack's Edition, 1943), title "Sheriff", as enacted by
Chapter 1055 of the Acts of 1945, to authorize the Board of
County Commissioners of that County to provide for the
feeding of prisoners in the jail and other places of confine-
ment of prisoners by the County.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Section 1270 of the Public Local Code of Prince
George's County (Flack's Edition, 1943), title "Sheriff", as
enacted by Chapter 1055 of the Acts of 1945, be, and the same
is hereby, repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read
as follows:
1270. That the Board of County Commissioners of Prince
George's County be, and it is hereby, authorized and directed
to provide for the board and feeding of prisoners confined
in the County Jail or other places of confinement of prisoners
under the control of the County, and for that purpose the
Board of County Commissioners may itself provide food,
equipment, facilities and services necessary to feed such
prisoners, or it may let the feeding of such prisoners out to
other parties upon contracts obtained by bids and awarded
to the lowest responsible bidder; and the Board of County
Commissioners shall levy annually a sum sufficient for the
payment of the same; and the feeding of prisoners shall be
under the supervision of the Sheriff or other person in charge
of the place of confinement.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act is here-
by declared to be an emergency measure and necessary for
the immediate preservation of the public health and safety
and having been passed by a yea and nay vote, supported by
three-fifths of all of the members elected to each of the two
Houses of the General Assembly of Maryland, the same shall
take effect from the date of its passage.
