to do and perform, and such deputies shall not be entitled
to demand or be paid any further or other compensation
for the rendition of any service incident to their office than
that provided in this section. The County Commissioners in
each County are hereby authorized and directed to levy and
collect annual taxes on the property assessable for taxation
in said County to such amount as may be necessary for the
payment of the salaries and allowances as specified in this
section. Provided, that the provisions of this section shall
only apply to Montgomery County.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act is hereby
declared to be an emergency measure and necessary for the
immediate preservation of the public health and safety and
having been passed by a yea and nay vote, supported by three-
fifths of all the members elected to each of the two Houses
of the General Assembly of Maryland, the same shall take
effect from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 59.
(House Bill 21)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section
599 of the Montgomery County Code (1939 Edition), be-
ing Article 16 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Mary-
land, title "Montgomery County", sub-title "Laytonsville",
authorizing an increase in the 'tax rate of the Town of
Laytonsville.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Section 599 of the Montgomery County Code
(1939 Edition), being Article 16 of the Code of Public Local
Laws of Maryland, title "Montgomery County", sub-title
"Laytonsville", be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted,
with amendments, to read as follows:

599. The commissioners may levy a tax not exceeding
thirty-five cents on the hundred dollars' worth of assessable
property.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act is hereby
declared to be an emergency measure and necessary for the
immediate preservation of the public health and safety and
having been passed by a yea and nay vote, supported by three-
fifths of all the members elected to each of the two Houses
of the General Assembly of Maryland, the same shall take
effect from the date of its passage.
