hundred and forty-eight, entitled, an act authorising the
incorporation of homestead and building associations in
this State; Provided, said Baltimore City Domicil Society
shall, within six months from the passage of this
act, lodge with the clerk of the superior court of Baltimore
city, a copy of the constitution and by-laws of said
corporation, signed by the president and secretary, to be
recorded in the office of said clerk.


Proviso.
     SEC. 2.  And be it enacted, That this act shall take
effect from and immediately after the day of its passage.

                           CHAPTER 444.

AN ACT relating to the emoluments of Clerks and
                               Registers.



     Passed May
31, 1853.
     SECTION 1.  Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland,
That the several clerks of the circuit
courts and the registers of wills of the several counties
of this State, the clerks of the superior court, the court
of common pleas, the criminal court and the circuit for
Baltimore city, and the register of wills for Baltimore
city, whenever the emoluments of their office shall exceed
the sum of two thousand five hundred dollars in
any one year, after deducting therefrom the necessary
expenses incident to their office, in the same year, the
excess shall in every such case, be paid into the Treasury
of this State.

     SEC. 2.  And be it enacted, That every clerk and
register aforesaid, shall account to the Comptroller of
the Treasury for all his emoluments, and also for all
the expenses incident to his office, that such accounts,
as well of expenses as of emoluments, shall be rendered
on oath or affirmation, at least twice in every year, and
at such times and in such forms, and shall be supported
by such proofs, as shall be prescribed by the Comptroller
of the Treasury.

     SEC. 3.  And be it enacted, That every clerk and
register as aforesaid, shall, together with his accounts
of the expenses incident to his office, render a list of the
clerks employed by him, stating the rate of compensation
allowed to each, and the duties which they severally
perform; and also an account of the sums paid for
stationery, official or contingent expenses, fuel and
