                           CHAPTER 439.

AN ACT to authorise and empower the county commissioners
     of Allegany county to increase the number
     of Collectors of Tax for said county.



     Passed May
31, 1853.
     SECTION 1.  Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland,
That the county commissioners of Allegany
county, be, and they are hereby authorised and
empowered, to ensure a more prompt collection of the
county taxes, to divide said county into as many collection
districts, for the collection of said taxes, and in
such manner as they may deem proper, not exceeding
the number of election districts in said county, at their
first levy term, and annually thereafter, and appoint a
collector for each one or more districts, taking from each
a bond, to be executed and recorded as is now required
by law, for the faithful discharge of their duties.
     Authority to
divide county.
     SEC. 2.  And be it enacted, That the said collectors
shall each and every of them, finish and complete the
collections of such taxes as may be placed in their
hands by the time prescribed or assigned by the said
court for the completion of the same, and shall pay
and account for the same in such manner and at such
times as said court shall direct or appoint.

     SEC. 3.  And be it enacted, That the said collectors
shall be allowed such compensation for collection as the
said court shall consider right and proper, not exceeding
six per centum on the amount collected in each collection
district.

     SEC. 4.  And be it enacted, That the county commissioners
of Allegany county, be, and the are hereby
authorised to appoint a collector or collectors of taxes,
from time to time, to supply any vacancy or vacancies
which may happen by reason of death, resignation or
removal out of the county, of a collector or collectors
previously appointed, or of the neglect or refusal of any
such collector to give bond, in the manner, and at the
time required by the said county commissioners.

     SEC. 5.  And be it enacted, That the collectors appointed
to collect the county taxes in the several collection
districts authorised by this act shall be constituted
the collectors of the State taxes in Allegany county,
upon giving the requisite bonds, and complying with
the provisions of the laws regulating the collection of
the said direct tax of the State.
Bond.
     SEC. 6.  And be it enacted, That this act shall take
effect from the date of its passage.
