CHAPTER 404.
AN ACT to amend the act entitled, an act to establish
a House of Refuge for Juvenile Delinquents, and the
supplement thereto, so as to reduce the number of
Managers thereof, to change the mode of appointment
of a part of said Managers, and to take away
from the Judges of the Circuit Courts of the counties,
of this State, the power to order the removal of minors
to the House of Refuge.

managers.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted
by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That from and after the third Monday
of February, in the year eighteen hundred and fifty-four,
the number of managers of the House of Refuge
shall be twenty instead of twenty-four as now prescribed
by law, and of whom ten shall be elected by the
members of the association, and ten appointed by the
mayor and city council of Baltimore, in the manner
and at the time prescribed in the act of the General Assembly
of Maryland, passed at December session, eighteen
hundred and thirty, chapter sixty-four, entitled,
an act to establish a House of Refuge for juvenile delinquents,
seven of which said managers shall constitute
a quorum for the transaction of business.

Repealed.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted,
That so much of the
act of the General Assembly of Maryland, passed at
December session, eighteen hundred and forty-nine,
chapter three hundred and seventy-four, entitled, an act
supplementary to an act to establish a House of Refuge
for juvenile delinquents, passed February eight, eighteen
hundred and thirty, and of any law or laws, as
authorised or empowers the judge of the circuit court of
any county, of this State, to order any minor to be removed
to and confined in the House of Refuge, except
in cases which the trial of such minor shall have
been removed from the criminal court of Baltimore
city to said circuit court, shall be, and the same is
hereby repealed.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted,
That this act shall take
effect from the passage thereof.
