seventy-eight cents, of the debt created by the act of
Assembly, passed at December session, eighteen hundred
and twenty-one, chapter one hundred and fifty, in
two certificates, one of which certificates was issued on
the fifth day of May, eighteen hundred and twenty-three,
for the sum of one thousand thirty four dollars
and eight cents, and the other on the twenty-seventh
day of June, eighteen hundred and twenty-three, for
the sum of eleven hundred and fifty dollars and seventy
cents; and that on the death of said Richard H. Jones,
John Q. Hewlett, Evan T. Ellicott and Joseph Davenport
were appointed the executors of his will, of whom
the said John Q. Hewlett is the sole acting executor,
and that the said certificates were lost or mislaid prior
to the death of the said Richard H. Jones, which occurred
in the month of May, eighteen hundred and
thirty-three, and have not been found, although all
proper efforts for that purpose have been made; Therefore,

     SECTION 1.  Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland,
That the Treasurer of this State be and
he is hereby authorised to issue to the said John Q.
Hewlett, as acting executor of Richard H. Jones, deceased,
new certificates, shewing on their face that they
are duplicates of the certificates alleged to be lost, and
corresponding in amount with said lost certificates,
which duplicate certificates shall entitle the said John Q.
Hewlett, acting executor as aforesaid, so long as he shall
be the holder thereof, to receive the principal and interest
due, and to become due on the said lost certificates, when
and as the same shall become due; Provided, however,
that the said Treasurer shall be satisfied that the said certificates
were lost as alleged, and have not been found;
And provided also, that the said John Q. Hewlett shall
give to the said Treasurer satisfactory security to indemnify
the State against any other claim or demand on account
of the said certificates alleged to be lost.
     Authority to
issue new certificates.

     SEC. 2.  And be it enacted, That this act shall go
into operation from the day of its passage.
