Proviso.
county taxes, until the twenty-fifth day of August,
eighteen hundred and fifty-three; Provided, the collectors
of taxes in Montgomery county, shall be furnished
with the list of accounts for taxes on or before the first
day of September, eighteen hundred and fifty-three.
In force.
     SEC. 2.  And be it enacted, That this act shall take
effect from and after its passage.





     Passed May
25, 1853.

     School commissioners
to
be appointed.
     SECTION. 1.  Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland,
That the judges of the orphans' court of
Saint Mary's county, shall on or before the first Tuesday
in November, eighteen hundred and fifty-three, and
on the same day of every fourth year thereafter appoint
five learned and discreet persons, one to be elected from
each election district of the county, who shall be styled
a board of school commissioners of Saint Mary's county,
and said board shall organise by the election of a president
from among their own number, and make such
laws and regulations for the government of the board
as they may deem expedient.
     First regular
meeting.
     SEC. 2.  And be it enacted, That the first regular
meeting of said board of school commissioners shall be
held on or before the first Tuesday of December, eighteen
hundred and fifty-three, at the court house, in
Leonardtown, and quarterly thereafter; and the president
of said board may call extra meetings, and adjourn
from day to day, for four days, whenever in the judgment
of the board of the business of the board requires it.
Quorum.


Vacancy—
how filled.
     SEC. 3.  And be it enacted, That a majority of said
commissioners shall constitute a quorum for the transaction
of business; and in case of a vacancy in said
board the orphans' court, at its first meeting thereafter,
shall appoint some suitable person to fill such vacancy,
who shall serve until the next regular appointment of
school commissioners.
Treasurer.
     SEC. 4.  And be it enacted, That the register of wills
for Saint Mary's county, is hereby constituted treasurer
