of any such depositor shall not exceed the sum of
five hundred dollars.

     SEC. 6.  And be it enacted, That this act shall go
into effect from and after the date of its passage, but the
same shall be subject at any time to be repeated or altered
by the Legislature.

                           CHAPTER 187.

AN ACT in addition to the act passed at December
     session, eighteen hundred and forty-five, chapter six,
     entitled, an act to introduce wholesome water into
     the city of Frederick.
Preamble.
     WHEREAS, By the second section of the act passed
at December session, eighteen hundred and forty-five
chapter six, the proceeds of the lottery heretofore granted,
and the rents or tolls of the water works were
pledged and appropriated for the payment of the interest
and principal of water works' debts then existing;
And whereas, since the passage of said acts, the
mayor, aldermen and common council of Frederick
have been authorised to borrow an additional sum of
twenty thousand dollars, for the purpose of extending
and enlarging said water works; And whereas, the
mayor, aldermen and common council of Frederick
represent that they are inconvenienced by the pledge of
the proceeds of said lottery, and the rents and tolls of
the water works exclusively, to the debt existing at the
date of the passage of said act of eighteen hundred
and forty-five, and that it is desirable that the corporation
should have in its power to appropriate the proceeds
of said lottery, and the net rents or tolls of the
water works, first to the payment of the interest of the
whole water works' debt, and then to the reduction
of the principal; And whereas, it is also represented
that the debt to which the pledge created by said act of
eighteen hundred and forty-five, is applicable, is twenty-eight
thousand dollars; Therefore,
     Authority to
borrow
money.
     SECTION 1.  Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland,
That the mayor, aldermen and common
council of Frederick, be and are hereby authorised and
empowered to borrow on the credit of the corporation
of Frederick, twenty-eight thousand dollars, to be applied
to the payment of the debt due for said water
