                           CHAPTER 158.

AN ACT to authorise the County Commissioners of
     St. Mary's County, to levy money for repairing or rebuilding
     a bridge across the head waters of St. Mary's
     river, at the Great Mills, and to contract for repairing
     or rebuilding the same.
     Authority to
levy.
     SECTION 1.  Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland,
That the county commissioners of St.
Mary's county, are hereby authorised to levy upon the
assessable property of St. Mary's county, such sum or
sums of money as they may deem necessary, for the
purpose of repairing or rebuilding the bridge across the
head waters of St. Mary's river, at or near the Great
Mills, if they deem the same necessary for public convenience
and travel, and they are hereby authorised to
contract for the repairing or rebuilding of said bridge,
in such manner and on such terms and conditions as
they may deem best.
In force.
     SEC. 2.  And be it enacted, That this act shall take
effect from the day of its passage.

                           CHAPTER 159.

AN ACT to amend the act passed at December session
     eighteen hundred and thirty-seven, chapter two hundred
     and six, to establish Primary Schools, in Dorchester
     County.
     Board of commissioners
to be
appointed.
     SECTION 1.  Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland,
That it shall be the duty of the county
commissioners of Dorchester county, to appoint not less
than three, nor more than seven persons residents of
said county, to  be styled the board of examiners of
primary school teachers of said county.
     Board to examine
applicants.
     SEC. 2.  And be it enacted, That it shall be the
duty of the said board or any member thereof to examine
every applicant for the situation of teacher in
any primary school of said county, and if they or he
shall find such applicant qualified for the situation of
teacher, to give to him or her a written certificate to this
effect, if he or she is competent to teach and what
branches, but if otherwise to reject him or her.
