                                   CHAPTER 18.

AN ACT to alter and amend the charter of the Parker
     Vein Coal company, passed at the December session
     eighteen hundred and forty-nine, chapter fifty-six, and
     amended at the January session, eighteen hundred
     and fifty-two, chapter three hundred and fifty-nine, so
     as to authorize an increase of its capital stock; also,
     to allow said company to hold more land, to increase
     the number of its directors; and also to authorize
     said company to subscribe to the capital stock of certain
     incorporated companies.
     Authority to
increase capital
stock.
     SECTION 1.  Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland,
That the Parker Vein Coal company be
allowed, and they are hereby authorised to increase the
capital stock of said company to an amount not exceeding
three millions of dollars, to be divided into
shares of one hundred dollars each.
     Authority to
receive subscription.
     SEC. 2.  And be it enacted, That the president and
directors of said company shall be authorised to receive
subscriptions to the said additional capital stock at
such times and places as they or a majority of them
may designate.
     Allowed to
hold more
land.
     SEC. 3.  And be it enacted, That the said Parker Vein
Coal company may hold not exceeding seven thousand
acres of land, instead of being limited to three thousand
acres of land.
     Number of
directors.
     SEC. 4.  And be it enacted, That the number of
directors of said Parker Vein Coal company now limited
to five, shall be increased to nine.
     Authority to
take stock in
certain companies.
     SEC. 5.  And be it enacted, That the said Parker
Vein Coal company are hereby authorised to subscribe
and take stock in the New York, Baltimore and Alexandria
steam ship company to an amount not exceeding
seven hundred thousand dollars, and in any rail
road company that may hereafter be incorporated, to
build a rail road in Allegany county for the transportation
of coal.
In force.
     SEC. 6.  And be it enacted, That this act shall take
effect from and after the day of its passage.
