                                   CHAPTER 16.

AN ACT entitled, an act authorising the Commissioners
     of Allegany county to levy and assess upon the taxable
     property of said county, a certain sum of money
     for the use of James



Passed Feb.
12, 1853.
     SECTION 1.  Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland,
That the commissioners of Allegany
county be, and they are hereby authorised, at the time
of making the next annual levy, to levy and assess
upon the taxable property within Allegany county, for
the use of James Twigg, late collector of the county
taxes of said county, the sum of five hundred and fifty
dollars and seventeen cents, or such sum as they may
find to be due him, with interest thereon from the first
day of August, in the year eighteen hundred and forty-six,
the same being the amount of county taxes overpaid
by the said James Twigg as collector of Allegany
county, for the year eighteen hundred and forty-five,
and which be neglected and omitted to return as insolvent,
as he ought to have done.
     Authority to
levy.
     SEC. 2.  And be it enacted, That this act shall take
effect from its passage.

                                   CHAPTER 17.

AN ACT appropriating a sum of money to pay the
     Commissioner, Clerk and Witnesses in the contested
     election for Register of Wills, of Howard county.

9, 1853.
     SECTION 1.  Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland,
That the Treasurer, upon the warrant of
the Comptroller, be, and he is hereby directed to pay,
out of any unappropriated money in the Treasury, to
William Hughes, of Howard county, or order, the sum
of sixty-seven dollars and ten cents, to be paid by said
William Hughes to the commissioner, clerk and witnesses
in the contested election for Register of Wills for
Howard county, as directed by this Legislature, and
after the payment of the several sums of money to the
persons to whom the same are due, he shall file the receipts
thereof in the office of the Treasurer.
     Authority to
pay.
     SEC. 2.  And be it enacted, That this act shall take
effect from the date of its passage.
