Appeal tax—
persons continued.
     SEC. 5.  And be it enacted, That Henry Snyder,
William H. B. Fusselbaugh, Charles G. Ridgely and
Robert D. Millholland, the appeal tax court of the city
of Baltimore, created and constituted by the said act of
eighteen hundred and fifty-two, for the purposes specially
provided for by said act, be and they are hereby continued
as such appeal tax court, for the purposes of
carrying out the provisions of said act of eighteen hundred
and fifty-two, and of this act until the tenth day
of May, eighteen hundred and fifty-three.
     Comptroller
to transmit
copy of law.
     SEC. 6.  And be it enacted, That the Comptroller
be and he is hereby directed and required to transmit to
the county commissioners of each county, and the appeal
tax court of the city of Baltimore, a copy of this
act as soon as practicable, after the same shall have
been passed.
In force.
     SEC. 7.  And be it enacted, That this act shall take
effect from the date of its passage.

                                  CHAPTER 99.

AN ACT for the more effectual suppression of crimes.
To be punished
by confinement
in penitentiary.
     SECTION 1.  Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland,
That if any person shall unlawfully
shoot at any person, or shall, in any manner, unlawfully
and maliciously attempt to discharge any kind of
loaded arms at any person, or shall unlawfully and
maliciously stab, cut or wound any person, or shall assault
or assault and beat any person, with intent to
maim, disfigure or disable such person, or with intent to
prevent the lawful apprehension or detainer of any party
for any offence for which the said party may be legally
apprehended or detained, every such offender, and
every person councelling, aiding or abetting such offender,
shall, upon conviction thereof, be punished by
confinement in the penitentiary for a period not less
than six months and not more than ten years.
     Fine and imprisonment.
     SEC. 2.  And be it enacted, That any person who
shall assault and beat any person in any of the streets,
lanes, alleys or highways of the city of Baltimore, or
at any place of public resort or amusement, between
the hours of six o'clock in the evening and six o'clock
in the following morning, or who shall counsel, aid or
