                            LAWS OF MARYLAND.

    2.  And be it enacted, That the said justices are hereby authorised
in case they enter into an agreement for the purchase
of said property, to assess and levy on the assessable real
and personal property of said county, at the time of laying
their public levies, the sum which the said property may cost,
not exceeding the sum of three thousand dollars, that is to say,
one third part thereof, in the year one thousand eight hundred
and twenty-six, one other third part thereof in one thousand
eight hundred and twenty-seven, and the remaining third part,
in one thousand eight hundred and twenty-eight, together with
the collector's commission for collecting the same, which said
assessment, so as aforesaid to be made and levied, shall be collected
by the collector of the county, for the time being, in the
manner that other public charges are by law collected, and the
said sum or sums of money, when so aforesaid collected, shall be
paid, by such collector, to the said justices, or their order, or
orders, who are hereby authorised and directed to receive and
apply the same to the purposes to which they are by this act appropriated.

Levy.

    3.  And be it enacted, That the clerk of Somerset county court
and the register of wills of said county, are hereby directed and
required, at some convenient time, after said purchase is completed
to remove, or cause to be removed, all the books, rolls,
papers, and other records belonging to their respective courts,
and in their respective keeping, to such apartments in the newly
purchased house, as the justices of the levy court, or a majority
of them, shall to them respectively designate; and the same
when so removed, there safely to keep, and never permit to be
removed.

    WHEREAS, many of the manuscript books in which were
recorded, the votes and proceedings of the several conventions
held antecedently to the formation of the state government, and
also such manuscript books as contained the votes and proceedings
of the senate and house of delegates, are missing and it is
expedient that a full copy of such proceedings should be preserved
for the information of the people.
Preamble.
    Sec. 1.  Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That the governor and council, are hereby authorised and requested
to purchase or otherwise procure an entire and complete
set of the manuscript or printed votes and proceedings, of every
session of the convention above mentioned and each branch of
Executive to
