Which was read the first time, and referred to the
Committee on Judicial Proceedings.

REPORTS OF STANDING COMMITTEES.

Mr. Hayes, from the Committee on Finance, reported
favorably, the following bills:

Senate bill entitled an Act to appropriate a sum of
money to aid in the purchase of free books for the

scholars of the public schools of the State of Mary-
land.

With the following proposed amendment:
AMENDMENT PROPOSED.

Strike out in line 4 the words, "or so much thereof
as may be necessary; " in line 9, after the word "Bal-
timore, " insert the words "in the same manner and. "

Which was adopted.

Said bill, as amended, was read the second time,
. and ordered to be engrossed for a third reading.

Senate bill entitled an Act to repeal section 22, of
Article 81, of Code of Public General Laws, title
"Revenue and Taxes, " sub-title "Rate and Items of
State Tax, " and to re-enact the same with amend-
ments.

With, the following proposed amendment:
AMENDMENT PROPOSED.

In line 12, strike out after the word "dedicated, "
the word "exclusively, " and insert in lieu thereof the

word "primarily. "

Which was adopted.

Said bill, as amended, was read the second time,
and ordered to be engrossed for a third reading.

Senate bill entitled an Act appropriating a sum of
money to the Maryland Society of the Sons of the
American Revolution for the erection of a monument
in Baltimore city.

With the following proposed amendment:
AMENDMENT PROPOSED.

In section 1, line 1, strike out the word "ten, " and
insert in lieu thereof the word "five. "

Add to section 1, the following: "Provided the
Comptroller shall not issue a warrant for said five
