fifty-six of the Code of Public Local Laws, entitled

" Allegany County," sub-title " City of Cumberland,"

be and are hereby repealed and re-enacted to read as

follows, viz:

22. The inhabitants of the city of Cumberland, in

Allegany county, are a corporation by the name of
the Mayor and City Council of Cumberland, and by

a common seal, which may be altered at pleasure,

and may purchase and hold real, personal or mixed

property, or dispose of the same for the benefit of

said city ; provided that the purchase or alienation

of such real estate when the value thereof shall ex-

a majority of the legal voters voting thereat assent

to the same; but in case any real property shall

hereafter revert to said Mayor and City Council by

reason of the failure of compliance with the terms of

any deed or contract now in existence, such real

estate shall not be sold, but shall be held for the

benefit of said city, said Mayor and City Council

having the right to lease the same to manufacturers

or other industrial enterprises.

23. The said Mayor and City Council shall as

soon as practicable provide by ordinance for a sur-
