sided in the State of Maryland and in said town for


twelve months next preceding the election, shall, on


the fourth Monday of March, in the year eighteen


hundred and seventy-eight, and upon the same day


in every alternate year thereafter, elect by ballot a
person, not under twenty-five years of age, a citizen

said town next preceding the election, and seized of


property situate within said town, and assessed at


not less than one thousand dollars, to be the Mayor of


said town, and to remain in office until his successor


is elected and qualifies.


SEC. 112. In case of a vacancy in the office of


Mayor, by death or otherwise, an election may be


ordered by the Council to fill the unexpired term,


and said election, if ordered, shall be conducted in


accordance with the provisions for holding elections

SEC. 113. The Mayor, by virtue of his office, shall
