equity demands the release of the said Collector

 

from the responsibilities for said loss, and to direct

 

the State's Attorney for Dorchester county to enter

 

a release upon his and their bond for the amount of

 

said sum of seventeen hundred dollars belonging to

 

the State ; and in settlement with the said Collector,

 

the Comptroller, with regard to and upon the condi-

 

tions aforesaid, is hereby authorized and directed to

 

allow him a deduction of said proportionate share in

 

accordance with the provisions of this act.

 

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the County Com-

 

missioners of Dorchester county be and they are

 

hereby authorized and empowered to release the said

 

John Henry Noble, collector as aforesaid, and each

 

and all of his said sureties, from the payment of the

 

remainder of said sum of seventeen hundred dollars,

 

upon such proof of said loss, and upon such equitable

 

basis as to them shall seem proper and right, after
investigation into the circumstances attending the

loss, and to discharge him and them from all claim

 

or demand for, or on account of the same; and they

 

are likewise authorized to cause a release of such

 

sum to be entered on the judgments obtained as

 

aforesaid for their use against the said collector and

 

his sureties ; and said releases, if made, shall in each

 

case be entered so as to bear interest on the same

 

from the said nineteenth day of March, in the year

 

eighteen hundred and seventy-seven.

 

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That this act shall take
