shall be the duty of said inspector to weigh at said

scales all hay, straw, cattle, or other commodities
|
 
|
there offered to him to be weighed ; and he shall be
|
 
|
entitled to demand and receive for each and every
|
 
|
load of hay or straw weighing thirty hundred pounds
|
 
|
and upwards forty-five cents, and for all loads less,
one-and-a-half cents per hundred pounds, and a like
|
 
|
rate per hundred pounds for all other commodities,
|
 
|
and which sums so received shall suffice as compen-
|

sation for holding such office to the extent of three
|
 
|
hundred dollars per annum, all sums in excess of
|
 
|
said amount to be paid into the treasury of the
|
 
|
State.

|
SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That all hay and straw
|
 
|
brought into said town of Havre-de-Grace for sale
|
 
|
and consumption therein shall be weighed at said
|
 
|
scales, and if any person so bringing hay and straw
|
 
|
therein shall neglect to have the same weighed at
|

said scales, or shall be detected in having stones,

fraudulent at-

rubbish, wood, or anything else concealed in his
|

of his cart or wagon with a fraudulent intent, he
|

shall forfeit and pay for each and every such offence
|
 
|
the sum of five dollars, upon conviction thereof be-
|

fore any justice of the peace, to be recovered in the

manner that small debts are now recovered.
|
 
|
SEC. 5. And be it enacted, That said scales shall
|
 
|
be adjusted at least once in every six months by the
|
 
|
standard of weights for the city of Baltimore, the
|
 
|
expenses of which adjustment shall be paid by the

inspector, and all expenses or repairs incident to

the keeping of said scales in good and perfect order
|
 
|
shall be paid by the commissioners of said town.
