CHAPTER 261.
AN ACT to more effectually protect travellers
against the payment of illegal tolls which may be
charged by any of the several turnpike companies
chartered under the act of eighteen hundred and
four, chapter fifty-one, or any supplement thereto.
Whereas, by the twenty-seventh section of the act
of eighteen hundred and four, chapter fifty-one, pro- vision is made for imposing a penalty of twenty dol-
lars for each time any illegal or greater tolls than the rate provided for in said chapter is demanded and	Preamble.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
