734 JOURNAL OF PROCEEDINGS [Mar. 9,
The Secretary of the Senate appeared and delivered
the following message:
Senate bill entitled an Act for the assistance of the
Home and Infirmary of Western Maryland, in the city
of Cumberland.
Which was read a first time, and referred to Com-
mittee on Ways and Means.
Also,
Senate bill entitled an Act to provide for the ap-
pointment of an additional Justice of the Peace, in
District No. 7, Garrett county, to be located at Moun-
tain Lake Park.
Which was read a first time, and referred to the
Garrett County Delegation and Mr. Strong.
Also,
House bill entitled an Act to appropriate a sum of
money to pay William H. Taylor for services rendered
the House of Delegates as flag-hoister, Robert Bellis
as assistant postmaster and Benjamin Sevier.
Endorsed: "Read the third time, and rejected, for
want of a constitutional majority, by yeas and nays."
Also, returned,
House bill entitled an Act to give the Legislative
assent of the State of Maryland to the provisions of
an Act of Congress, approved August 20th, 1890, and
entitled an Act to apply a portion of the proceeds of
the public lands to the more complete endowment
and support of the colleges for the benefit of agricul-
tural and the mechanic arts, established under the
provisions of an Congress, approved July 2d, 1862.
Endorsed: "Read the third time, and passed by
yeas and nays, with proposed amendments."
AMENDMENTS PROPOSED.
Insert in the first line of section 2, to come in
before the word "that," the following words: "Be it
enacted. '
Insert in section 3, to come in before the word
"this," the following words : "Be it enacted that,"
and insert in said section to come in after the word
"from," the following words: "the date of."
Which were severally read and adopted.
