Mr. Laird presented a petition from Ernest A. Zeig-
ler and 52 other citizens of Montgomery county, ask-
ing for the passage of a law prohibiting the sale of
intoxicating liquors within 1J miles of Hyattstown.
Which was read, and referred to the Committee on
Temperance.
Mr. Grove, of Frederick, presented a petition from
M. A. Turner and 88 other citizens of Buckeystown
District, in opposition to the passage of the bill now
pending before the General Assembly, prohibiting the
sale of liquor within 3 miles of Forrest Grove Church,
without submitting the same to the voters of said
district.
Which was read, and referred to the Committee on
Temperance.
Mr. Wilson presented a memorial from Edward
Boutler, James D. Keely and 120 other citizens of
Kent county, praying for the repeal of the law allow-
ing the use of patent tongs for taking oysters in the
waters of said county.
Which was read, and referred to the Committee on
the Chesapeake Bay and its Tributaries.

Ordered, That the Committee on Corporations be
excused from attendance on the House for one hour.

Ordered, That Mr. Garrett be excused on account
of business.
On motion of Mr. Orrick, it was
Ordered, That Mr. Monmonier be excused from at-
tending to-day's session.
LEAVES TO INTRODUCE BILLS.
On motion of Mr. Sams,
Leave was granted to the Committee on the Chesa-
peake Bay and its Tributaries to introduce a bill en-
titled an Act to establish and promote the industry of
oyster culture in Eastern Bay and its tributaries.
