1892.] OF THE HOUSE OF DELEGATES. 283
Mr. Carr submitted the following:
Whereas, it has been a most surprising thing to
those who know what strenuous efforts the Western
States are making to keep the current of immigration
flowing towards them, that this State should have
done nothing in the way of gathering and imparting
information on the soil, climate and material and
social advantages of Maryland; and
Whereas, the farmers of the State, in several con-
ventions, have adopted resolutions urging the Legis-
lature to issue, by authority of the State, a pamphlet
with the view of making the unequaled advantages of
Maryland better known, and to meet the demand
which is constantly being made upon the Governor
and other State officers by people residing in all parts
of this country and in Europe, for information as to
the natural resources and advantages of Maryland;
and
Whereas, the press of the State, with commendable
zeal, has been publishing interesting articles descrip-
tive of the resources of all the counties of Maryland
and the city of Baltimore, which have done much ser.
vice in attracting new settlers to us from other States
and from abroad ; and
Whereas, the eyes of a great many visitors at the
coming World s Columbian Exposition will be turned
towards Maryland, it is of the greatest importance
that a careful and accurately prepared pamphlet on
the climate, :he soils and the resources of Maryland
should be issued by authority of the State, and
stamped with its official approval, for free distribu-
tion to those who desire official and reliable informa-
tion on the subject of Maryland lands ; and
Whereas, the Commissioner of the Land Office has
carefully prepared a pamphlet on the climate, soil,
natural advantages and industrial development of all
the counties of Maryland, and the city of Baltimore,
with the inducements they offer to attract capital and
population. Therefore it is
Ordered, That the State Printer be and is hereby au-
thorized and directed to print and bind, for the use of
the State, ten thousand copies of the Report prepared
