The House proceeded to ballot for Treasurer of the
State of Maryland in place of Hon. Edwin H. Brown,
the tellers, Messrs. Canby and Buckey having takne
their places, the roll was called; each member present
having deposited his ballot, the Speaker sealed the
ballot box, when the tellers proceeded with the
same to meet the tellers on the part of the Senate,
and after an absence of twenty minutes re-appeared
and submitted the following
REPORT:
The committee appointed by the Senate and House
of Delegates to count the votes cast for Treasurer of
Maryland, beg leave to report, that
The votes cast by the Senate were in number - 21
The votes cast by the House were in number - 75
Making in all ---------- 96
Of which number Hon. Spencer C. Jones received
89 votes, and Gen. Alien Rutherford received 7 votes.
We therefore respectfully report that Hon. Spencer
C. Jones having received the largest number of votes,
is returned by the telleis as elected to the office of
Treasurer of Maryland.

Whereupon,
The Speaker declared the Hon. Spencer C. Jones
having received a majority of all the votes cast by
both branches of the General Assembly, was duly
elected State Treasurer for the term of two years.
Mr. O'Conor submitted the following message :

We propose, with the concurrence of your Honor-
