Messrs. Fitzgerald and Bittinger.
The Speaker announced the object of the Joint
Convention to be the election of one Police Com-
missioner to succeed Edson M. Schryver, whose term
of office will expire before the next meeting of the
General Assembly.
The Secretary of the Senate called the roll of the
Senate, when 21 Senators answered to their names.
The Clerk of the House of Delegates called the roll of
the House of Delegates, when 74 members answered
to their names.
A quorum of each House being present, the Speaker
announced his readiness to receive nominations for the
position above named.
Whereupon,
Senator Hayes nominated Edson M. Schryver.
On motion of Senator Waters,
The nominations were closed.
The Joint Body then proceeded to vote, and each
member having cast his vote, the tellers announced
as a result of the same that Edson M. Schryver had
received 90 votes for the term for which he was nomi-
nated, B. F. M. Hurley and Wesley M. Oler had each
received 2 votes for the term for which they were
nominated.
Whereupon,
The Chairman of the Joint Convention declared that
Edson M. Schryver having received a majority of all the
votes cast, was duly elected Police Commissioner for
the term of six years from March 15th, 1893, in succes-
sion to Edson M. Schryver.
On motion of Senator Smith,
The Joint Convention adjourned.
The House then resumed business.
The Secretary of the Senate appeared and delivered
the following message:
