Joint resolution requesting and urging the Senators and
|
|
|
|
Representatives of the State of Maryland in the Congress
|
|
|
|
of the United States to use their best efforts and endeavors
|
|
|
|
to secure the passage of Senate bill No. 67, entitled a "Bill
|
|
|
|
to transfer the Revenue Marine Service from the Treasury
|
|
|
|
Department of the United States to the Naval Department,"
|
|
|
|
introduced in the Senate of the United States at the begin-
|
|
|
|
ning of this session by Senator Gray, of Delaware.
|
|
|
|
WHEREAS, there is now pending in the Congress of the.
|
Preamble.
|
|
|
United States a bill whick has for its object the transfer
|
|
|
|
of the revenue marine service from the treasury to the
|
|
|
|
naval establishment of the United States.
|
|
|
|
WHEREAS, said bill is in the highest sense a meritorious
|
|
|
|
measure and deserving of immediate consideration ; inas-
|

much as the revenue marine service has from its inception
|
|
|
|
been as much and more a military and naval organization
|
|
|
|
than a civil body without the incident rights and privileges
|
|
|
|
of the former, and inasmuch as the duties are at present
|
|
|
|
almost entirely of a military and naval character and should
|
|
|
|
for these reasons be connected to that department of the
|
|
|
|
government having control of naval affairs, therefore,
|
|
|
|
Be it resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
|
|
|
|
the Senators and Representatives of Maryland in the Con-

gress of the United States be and they are hereby requested
|

to employ their utmost endeavors and use their best efforts
|
|
|
|
to secure the speedy passage of said bill in both houses of
|
|
|
|
Congress and to advocate the same before the proper bodies
|
|
|
|
at such times as they may advise therein.
|
|
|
|
Be it further resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland,
|
|
|
|
That the Governor of this State be directed to forward
|
|
|
|
under the seal of the State a copy of these resolutions to
|
|
|
|
each of the Senators and Representatives of Maryland in
|
|
|
|
the Congress of the United States at as early a day as
|
|
|
|
possible.
