SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this act shall take effect

CHAPTER 685


AN ACT to authorize and empower the Board of Public


Works to build and equip three new sailing vessels, for


the use of the State Fishery Force and to sell three of the


old sloops now used by said force, and also to provide for


certain local guard boats during the oyster season.


SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of

State

Maryland, That the Board of Public Works, be and they

are hereby authorized to purchase or build three new sail-

ing vessels for the use of the State Fishery Force to take


the place of three of the sloops now in the said service, and


to name the same and to sell the three sloops so replaced,


and also to provide for four small sailing vessels to serve


during the oyster season to be stationed, one at Herring Bay,


one at the mouth of the Manokin River, one at the month


of the St. Mary's River and one at the Somerset and Dor-


chester line in Hooper's Straits.

SEC. 2. Be it enacted, That the said Board of Public

public or private sale, and to turn over the proceeds of sale


to the comptroller to be placed to the credit of the oyster


fund.

and Hooper's Strait at a cost not to exceed fifty dollars per


month for such hiring and to appoint a suitable person to


command such boats, at a salary of fifty dollars per month


from the first day of September to the first day of April


following, and the commander shall be authorized to select


such number of seamen to serve on said boats, as the said


Board of Public Works shall authorize, not to exceed three


in number one of whom shall receive a salary of forty dol-
