LAWS OF MARYLAND.

CHAPTER 271.


AN ACT to appropriate a sum of money to pay E. P.


Duval, State Librarian, moneys spent for boxes, ex-


pressage, storage and shipping Poe's Code.


WHEREAS, in the delivery of Poe's Code by the State

librarian, as ordered by the General Assembly of Maryland,


no appropriation was made, in the contingent fund of the


State library, to meet the expenses of said delivery ; and


WHEREAS, the first delivery of said code having been by

the single volume, and there being at the time of said


delivery no sufficient storage room for the same in the State


library, which thereby necessitated the storage and


delivery of the same from a place selected in the city of


Baltimore and


WHEREAS, for the purpose of convenience, the State

librarian was compelled so to store and have expressed,


(prepaid) boxes and shipped large numbers of said code


from said place of storage, and to that end has made him-


self personally liable for the expenses incident thereto ; and


whereas the trouble, labor and expense of said work has not


iu any way heretofore been provided therefor ; therefore,
