for the enforcement of the ordinance of the town the mayor


shall have all the powers of a police justice in ordering


arrests, summoning witnesses, and enforcing their atten-


dance by attachment and fines, administering oaths, trying


cases, inflicting fines and punishments, and committing in


default of payment of fines and costs to the town lockup or


the county jail for a period not to exceed thirty days, and to


demand and receive the same fees as are allowed justices of


the peace in criminal cases ; and the mayor shall keep a


docket for the corporation in which shall be entered all cases


that come before him, and the judgment rendered with the


fines imposed and taxed costs, and shall render statements


and submit his docket to the council quarterly ; and for his


services shall receive, in addition to his fees, an annual


salary of fifty dollars.


SEC. 11. And be it enacted, That at the first regular


meeting after the annual election the mayor, by and with

SEC. 12. And be it enacted, That the clerk shall keep a


careful record of the proceedings of the council and record

the town's finances, in separate, well bound books kept ex-


clusively for that purpose ; keep all books, records, papers


and documents in his safe custody ; and turn the same over


to his successor in office, issue licenses and permits and re-


ceive the money therefor, and pay the same over to the


treasurer monthly, and make monthly reports of the same.


He shall file all accounts and claims presented against the


town, and when the same are passed by the council make a


record of the same, and perform such other duties as are


imposed upon him by law, or ordinances, or by order of the


council. He shall subscribe to an oath for the faithful per-


formances of his duties, and give bond to the State of Mary-


land in the sum of five hundred dollars, to be approved by


the mayor and council, conditioned for the faithful


performance of his duties.


SEC. 13. And be it enacted, That the treasurer shall re-


ceive all money that may be collected for taxes, fines, or
