credit as treasurer, and make monthly reports of receipts,


disbursements and balances ; and all such money shall be


paid out only by the order of council approved by the


mayor. He shall subscribe to an oath for the faithful per-


formance of his duties, and give bond to the State of


Maryland in the sum of not less than five thousand dollars,


to be approved by the mayor and council, conditioned for


the faithful performance of his duties ; and his books shall


be subject to the inspection of any taxpayer upon request.


SEC. 14. And be it enacted, That the policeman shall


be vested and clothed with all the police powers of con-

duties, shall be liable upon conviction before the mayor to


punishment in the same manner and to the same extent as


if he had resisted a constable, the policeman shall annually


make an accurate alphabetical list of all the voters within


the corporate limits, and make returns of same to the clerk


of the council, and also a report of all the dogs, and by


whom owned, that are kept within the corporation, and the


policeman shall perform such other duties as are or shall be


imposed upon him. by law or ordinance or by order of the


mayor or council, and he shall pay over all fines or collec-


tions coming into his hands to the treasurer monthly, and


the policeman before entering upon his duties shall sub-


scribe to an oath for the faithful performance of his duties,


for the enforcement of the ordinances of the town, and the


preservation of its peace and good order ; and the police-


man shall give bond to the State of Maryland in the sum


of five hundred dollars, conditioned for the faithful dis-


charge of his duties.


SEC. 15. And be it enacted, That the tax collector, be-


fore entering upon the discharge of his duties shall sub-

than one thousand dollars, to be approved by the mayor


and council, conditioned for the faithful discharge of his


duties, he shall collect all taxes that may be levied by law,


ordinance or otherwise, and shall pay the same monthly to


the treasurer, he shall keep safe and return when demanded,


his tax assessment books, bills, papers and receipts, and


shall make monthly reports of his collections, his books


shall be subject to inspection by any taxpayer upon request


all such taxes shall be collected as county taxes are now


collected in Worcester County unless otherwise provided.


SEC. 16. And be it enacted, That the night watchman


shall be vested with all the police powers of constable, and


any person resisting him in the discharge of his duties
