States above twenty -one years of age who shall have owned

property assessed in the limits of the town for the two years

vote and shall have paid their tax and all male inhabitants

of the town, citizens of the United States, above twenty -one

years of age, who shall have bona fide resided in the town

for two years next preceding the election at which they
|
|
|
|
shall offer to vote shall be entitled to vote for said commis-
|
|
|
|
sioners by ballot on the third Monday in March annually at
|
|
|
|
the town hall in said town.
|
|
|
|
192. Every commissioner so elected, before he enters upon
|
|
|
|
the duties of his office, shall take an oath before some
|

justice of the peace of the county that he will diligently and
|

|
|
faithfully, according to the best of his judgment, perform
|
|
|
|
the duties of a commissioner of the said town without favor,
|
|
|
|
partiality or prejudice, and a certificate of such qualification

shall be made and returned by said justice to the commis-
|
|
|
|
sioners to be filed and recorded among their proceedings.
|
|
|
|
193. If any of the said commissioners shall die, resign or
|

remove from said town, or be otherwise disqualified during

the year for which he may be elected, an election to fill the
|
|
|
|
vacancy, the time and manner of holding which shall be
|
|
|
|
prescribed by the commissioners, shall be held, at which all

persons qualified as hereinbefore mentioned in section one
|
|
|
|
hundred and ninety shall be entitled to vote.
|
|
|
|
194. If the inhabitants of said town shall at any time
|
|
|
|
neglect to make an election at the time required by the
|

shall not thereupon cease, but shall continue the same as

though such election has been made, and the president and

commissioners for the time being shall continue and remain

196. The said president and commissioners shall have

power to pass ordinances regulating the market, the inspec-

|
|
tion, measurement and weight of all provisions, grain and
|

wood sold in and to be consumed in the town, to suppress

all disorderly meetings ; to prohibit the use of profane lan-
|
|
|
|
guage, drunkenness, fighting and disorderly conduct in the

town, to prevent the firing of cannon, guns, pistols, squibs
|
|
|
|
or any kind of firearms or fireworks in the town to prevent,
|
|
|
|
suppress and abate all nuisances, to prevent the running at
|
|
|
|
large in the town of horses, mules, cattle, swine, geese,
|
|
|
|
ducks, goats and dogs ; to prevent any immoderate driving
|
|
|
|
through the streets of the town with carriage, stage, cart,
|
|
|
|
wagon or other vehicle, or on horseback so as to endanger
|
|
|
|
the lives, limbs or property of the citizens, or disturb
|
|
|
|
|
|
